1009: 1963 Jaguar E-Type Coupé

My graphic design background is part of everything I do, and has a huge impact on what I like and the art I create.

One of my strongest influences has always been the illustrations of Hergé, as epitomised in his Adventures of Tintin story books. As a kid I loved the stories for their adventure, and as an adult I also came to love them for the clean simplicity of the lines and colours.

As a petrol head, I especially like his depictions of vehicles, and it is these that have inspired my series of graphic illustrations of classic sports cars, rendered in a crisp and bold style reminiscent of those Tintin stories, with the addition of a frame, caption and ‘sound’ for the full graphic novel effect!

It is based on a 1963 Jaguar E-Type Coupé with a 3.8 litre straight 6 engine, capable of a top speed of 150mph, figures that would still be pretty impressive today! I have imagined a long road trip over night, and have added a caption line taken from ‘Radar Love’ by Golden Ear Ring - what could be more appropriate?
